A round-up from another action-packed day in the WNCL where Ellyse Perry also returned to bowling

Queensland stormed to back-to-back victories at North Sydney Oval, reaching their target with a massive 182 balls to spare in a dominant display from Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne. New South Wales were in trouble early after being asked to bat and never recovered. Tahlia Wilson, who top scored two days ago, was beaten by an inswinger from Courtney Sippel and Alyssa Healy edged a big drive to slip. When Ash Gardner was caught behind off Nicola Hancock the home side were 3 for 36. Phoebe Litchfield and Erin Burns stitched together a 60-run stand, but the innings faded when Burns nicked Sippel. The last three wickets fell without a run being added as they were bundled out in the 42nd over. A brace of early wickets for Sammy-Jo Johnson, including Georgia Voll taken a slip for a duck following her 145 on Friday, briefly raised hopes but it became a chastening afternoon in the field as Harris and Redmayne flayed the attack to all corners. Harris brought up her fifty from just 33 balls and Redmayne hit 10 boundaries in her run-a-ball innings.Beth Mooney made her first century for Western Australia•Getty Images
Beth Mooney made her first major impression for Western Australia with an unbeaten 151 which provided the standout performance of their second victory over ACT in three days. The century came off 109 balls and she passed her next landmark in the final over during an innings that showcased her stamina with a huge amount of running. An opening stand of 99 with Chloe Piparo (44) set the platform then Maddy Darke (47) joined Mooney in a second-wicket partnership of 94. Mooney then dominated a 76-run stand for the fourth wicket alongside Amy Edgar. ACT’s chase started promisingly as Katie Mack and Rebecca Carter added 80 in 14 overs, but Alana King got among the wickets again by claiming both openers to follow her 5 for 12 on Friday. From there the visitors never threatened as Lilly Mills and Taneale Peschel also got among the wickets.Ellyse Perry returned to the bowling crease for the first time since March•Getty Images
The points were shared at Karen Rolton Oval when rain prevented a Super Over from taking place to split South Australia and Victoria. The chase had been reduced to 23 overs and Victoria were well on track with Sophie Molineux compiling a half-century, brought up with consecutive boundaries that put her team well ahead of the DLS. But, with steady drizzle falling, Jemma Barsby turned the game with three wickets. The final over started with Victoria needing nine to win and Tahlia McGrath kept them to eight despite Annabel Sutherland finding the boundary second ball. Earlier, South Australia had done well to reach 200 having been 8 for 116 before Barsby and Megan Schutt (33*) added 72 for the ninth wicket. Ellyse Perry had bowled for the first time since March after recovering from a stress fracture of her back and claimed a wicket, Emma de Broughe superbly caught in the covers by Molineux, during a three-over spell.
da stake casino: Although Aston Villa have slipped up in recent matches, with zero wins coming their way so far in November, there have still been plenty of positives this season for the Villa Park masses to cling onto.
da dobrowin: The Villans are only a point off third position in the early Premier League standings, with a winnable game up next against Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace gifting Unai Emery’s men a chance to bounce back from any recent poor results.
Emery will also know there’s more than enough talent in his camp to turn around this stumble in form, with the likes of Morgan Rogers and other stars at his disposal excelling away from some unwanted losses.
Top Villa performers this season
Rogers does feel like the obvious player to start with here, considering he has just won himself a new bumper deal at Villa Park until 2030, after also being gifted a senior England international call-up.
The constantly entertaining attacking midfielder has fired home three goals and picked up three assists across all competitions, wth his top performance levels not wavering in the Champions League whatsoever, with a ridiculous seven dribbles successfully registered against Bologna on Europe’s biggest stage in October.
There is also Rogers’ teammate up top in Ollie Watkins who has shown flashes of his brilliance in front of goal this season to date, despite failing to score for Emery’s men in their last five clashes.
He does still have a healthy return of five strikes next to his name from 11 Premier League contests, with Watkins also scoring this international break lining up alongside Rogers for the Three Lions versus Greece.
Not every top Villa star this season has been a guaranteed starter week in week out either, with Jhon Duran known now as a clinical striker in the West Midlands from off the substitutes bench.
Jhon Duran's value at Villa
Duran continues to look more and more like a bargain every game he dons a Villa strip, with the former Chicago Fire striker an Emery purchase for just £18m back in January 2023.
Whilst the Colombian would initially settle in well with five Premier League goals fired home during the 2023/24 season, this campaign has seen him become a man-possessed in front of goal, with many of Villa’s most memorable moments having the on-fire 20-year-old at the front and centre of them.
Of course, no article chronicling the insane rise of Duran at Villa would be complete without waxing lyrical about his clever strike versus Bayern Munich in the Champions League, which ended up winning the hosts the tight contest 1-0 over the Bavarian giants.
That inventive strike would come about after Duran had only been present on the Villa Park turf for 20 minutes, as he stepped up to replace Watkins in some style.

He has also been an electric option late on in games in the top-flight, with four goals coming the South American’s way despite the fact he hasn’t started a single contest in the division as only 278 minutes of action have been afforded to him.
The major impact the Villa number nine has managed to have on games has resulted in the likes of Arsenal reportedly being interested in his services, with a hefty €90m (£75m) price tag now above his head, according to reports from his native Colombia.
That is a crazy increase of 316%, when taking into account his original £18m fee, with that low fee now looking to be a golden bargain for Emery and Co.
Villa won’t want to part ways with the 20-year-old anytime soon, despite ridiculous amounts of money now being discussed, as Emery no doubt views his “weapon” – as he was once referred to by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – as integral to Villa ending this current season on a high.

Aston Villa could have their next Jhon Duran in this potent star.

Celtic kit agreement with Adidas – both parties planning to extend
Currently, Celtic are coming to the end of a five-year partnership with Adidas, who took over creating and manufacturing first team kit, training wear and supporter replica kits. The Hoops were previously with New Balance, however, back in 2020, Celtic described the deal with Adidas as magnificent and stunning, adding that a deal ‘is believed to be the biggest kit sponsorship ever to be announced across Scottish sport’.
However, with just months remaining in their partnership and plans needing to be put in place for 2025, Footy Headlines have now reported that Celtic and Adidas are planning to extend their deal. Both parties are seemingly happy to carry on their partnership, however, Footy Headlines ‘have no information as to how many seasons the deal will be extended for’.
Elsewhere, Footy Headlines have also claimed that Adidas is considering adding more teams to the ‘Elite Team’ category, one of which could be Celtic who are currently graded ‘B’. In 2023, Celtic generated an impressive £29m through kit sales, placing them in the top 20 in Europe.

Somerset bowled out for 69 in second innings as Barker stars with bat and ball
ECB Reporters Network21-May-2022
Keith Barker ran through Somerset in the second innings•Getty Images
Keith Barker played key roles with bat and ball as Hampshire completed a resounding ten-wicket LV= County Championship win over Somerset inside three days at Taunton. The 35-year-old left-arm seamer began by contributing a valuable 36 to help his side extend their first innings total from an overnight 144 for 5 to 280 all out, Aneurin Donald making 57 and James Fuller a rapid 38 to give Hampshire a lead of 69 on first innings.Barker then got to work with the ball, combining extravagant swing with nagging accuracy to claim 6 for 27 from an unbroken 13-over opening spell as Somerset crashed to 25 for 6 before being bowled out with the scores level.Opener Felix Organ hit the required single for victory off the fourth ball of Hampshire’s second innings and his team took 21 points to Somerset’s four to enhance an impressive start to the Championship campaign, keeping them on the tail of early leaders Surrey. The day began with the visitors trailing on first innings by 67. Ben Brown failed to add to his overnight score of 19 before being pinned lbw by Peter Siddle with the total on 152.At 154 for 6 in the 59th over, the ball had to be changed for the second time in the innings. By then Donald was showing a desire to get on the front foot, profiting from some sweetly timed drives as he and Barker ate into Somerset’s lead.A key moment came at 195 for 6 when Donald, on 29, was dropped by Craig Overton at gully off Josh Davey. It was an error the home side could ill afford and Barker had moved confidently to 26 when greeting the introduction of England spinner Jack Leach with a six and a four off his first two balls. The first of those shots put Hampshire in front. The next delivery saw Barker caught at midwicket, but Donald went to a 74-ball half-century before falling to the second new ball, bowled by Siddle.Kyle Abbott fell cheaply to Overton, but Fuller ensured Hampshire of a meaningful advantage, striking four fours and two sixes as Somerset bowled poorly during a last wicket stand of 24 with Mohammad Abbas.Overton and Siddle ended with four wickets each. But momentum was with Hampshire and a series of wretched shots contributed to Somerset’s nightmare second innings, their batting line-up lacking the technique to cope with the swinging ball.
Tom Lammonby was caught behind for a duck off Abbas, while opening partner Matt Renshaw was trapped lbw on his crease by Barker to make it 12 for 2. Tom Abell followed a leg-side delivery from Barker and glanced a catch to Ben Brown before Tom Banton top-edged an ill-judged pull off Abbas to give the wicketkeeper another victim.James Hildreth moved to 18,000 first-class runs with a single to get off the mark, but it proved his only contribution as he was bowled by a full, swinging ball from Barker. A similar delivery saw Lewis Gregory fall leg-before and Somerset were in disarray. Overton helped Steve Davies add 32 before being bowled by another full Barker delivery for 13.Another loose shot saw Davies, on 19, have his leg stump uprooted by Abbott before Leach was brilliantly caught at cover by Nick Gubbins, having middled a drive off Abbott. After Davey had brought the scores level with a glanced boundary off Barker, an embarrassing Somerset batting effort ended with him being bowled next ball shouldering arms.”We knew that if we could get a lead of 50 or 100 it would be very difficult for them, but we were never expecting ten wickets in a session,” Barker said. “The pitch offered a lot throughout the whole game. I just kept on plugging away and it was my turn to take wickets this innings.”Abell, Somerset’s captain, said: “We are not going to make excuses for ourselves: that was really poor. Obviously, this is a setback. It’s not fatal because there is so much cricket to be played, but having made such strides it is a shame we couldn’t kick on and give a better account of ourselves.”We are better that what we have shown. The lack of fight and the lack of character in the second innings is what hurts us most.”
da bet esporte: As Erik ten Hag walked around the Wembley outfield holding the FA Cup aloft he was chuffed at proving his doubters wrong. Still, the Manchester United boss could not rest.
da esport bet: Instead of receiving much praise the focus was once again on his future. Are you going to stay at Old Trafford, Erik? Is this enough to keep you in the dug-out, Mr Ten Hag?
It seemingly was enough. United’s new hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, kept him at Carrington but the results haven’t changed too much.
Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui look like great captures but their new star of the future, Leny Yoro, still sits on the sideline with an injury.
De Ligt scores against Southampton.
Once they have a full complement of players, it’s likely they’ll be a far better outfit. Will that be with or without Ten Hag? Only time will tell.
After drawing with FC Twente in midweek, the spotlight fell not just on him but the club’s captain, Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese is off the pace and searching for his best form.
Bruno Fernandes' season in numbers – 2024/25
The attacking midfielder is so often the beating heart of this Manchester United team. Last term, he scored 15 goals and registered 13 assists in all competitions.
This season may only be in its embryonic stages but he’s not hit anywhere near the levels we’ve become accustomed to seeing. Fernandes is yet to score and he’s supplied just three assists, of which none have come in league action.
The nadir of his campaign to date has come over the last couple of games. Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst handed the Portugal international a dismal 4/10 rating for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace last week. Over the course of the match Fernandes did register a whopping 113 touches but ceded possession a remarkable 34 times.
Of his mega touch hall, he could only supply two key passes to his teammates as well.

Chalkboard
Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.
So, what can United do to get more of a tune from their skipper?
Rasmus Hojlund to the rescue
Since signing from Bologna over the summer, Joshua Zirkzee has been employed as United’s leading man in attack.
He’s showed flashes of brilliance – scoring on his debut against Fulham on the Premier League’s opening night.
However, since that magical introduction to life at Old Trafford the Dutchman has found life difficult in England, failing to score across his next six games which includes that draw with Twente a few days ago and a League Cup thrasing against Barnsley.
So, some time out of the team might be good, yes? Rasmus Hojlund earned his first 14 minutes of the season against Palace last weekend and must now start a league game for the first time this term.
In the words of Gary Neville, he’s “the real deal”, in the words of Ruben Selles – Hojlund’s assistant coach at FC Copenhagen – he is a “monster” profile. It’s one that could just help return Fernandes to his best.
Why? Well Zirkzee has tended to operate in the pockets of space the United captain thrives in, dropping deep to try and help create like a Harry Kane might do. Hojlund on the other hand, runs the channels more often and acts as a man searching for those fluid through balls from the club’s chief creator. The use of their heat maps helps to showcase this very fact.
Zirkzee (left) and Hojlund (right), via Sofascore.
The image above on the left-hand side is Zirkzee’s heat map from this season which shows that his warmest areas are where you’d typically associate someone like Fernandes to work his magic in. On the flip side (right image), Hojlund is far warmer closer go goal, either on the edge of the area or inside the penalty box on a more regular basis. So, the theory is he’d provide more space for the Portuguese in the final third.
Like United’s summer signing, the £85k-per-week Dane is still raw, he’s still young and far from prolific but he did grow into his skin under Ten Hag last term, eventually ending 2023/24 with 16 goals to his name, ten of which came in league action.
There is no guarantee he’ll revive Fernandes but it’s a combination that worked pretty well last season. It’s time to utilise it again.
