Comedian will be second non-cricketer to deliver lecture, following Archbishop Tutu in 2008

The actor and presenter Stephen Fry is to deliver the Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s promising to represent the “the point of view of the fan”.Fry, who has played memorable roles in series such as and was one half of the comedy double-act alongside Hugh Laurie, is the 20th person to deliver the lecture but only the second non-cricketing personality, following Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s contribution in 2008.The lecture, which was previously known as the Spirit of Cricket Lecture, is named in memory of Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge. The inaugural address was delivered in 2001 by Richie Benaud and past lecturers include Clive Lloyd, Imran Khan, Kumar Sangakkara and Mike Brearley. According to a report from journalist Dean Jones this week via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are one of several teams interested in signing Olmo this summer.

Daniel Levy and Co will have to stump up around £51m to activate his release clause and get ahead of the other interested parties, which include Manchester City and Chelsea, to secure the 26-year-old's services.

It could be a tough deal to get over the line, but if they can do it, the North Londoners would have another very talented player on their hands and one who could thrive in Postecoglou's progressive system.

For example, according to FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Spaniard is in the top 9% of attacking midfielders and wingers for expected assists, the top 12% for total shots, the top 14% for interceptions and the top 15% for non-penalty expected goals and assists, all per 90.

Moreover, his raw output is just as impressive. Last season, he scored eight goals and provided five assists in just 25 appearances, equating to a goal involvement every 1.92 games. For Spain, he's produced 20 goal involvements in 38 matches, which is one every 1.90 games on average.

In all, it makes perfect sense why Spurs are keen to sign Olmo and why he's worth so much, but at the same time, the club already have an exciting attacking player worth even more than him.

James Maddison's valuaiton in 2024

Yes, the man in question is James Maddison, who joined Spurs from Leicester City for £40m last summer as the club's marquee signing.

The Englishman's first campaign with the Lilywhites was a mixed one. He started by producing eight goal involvements in his first ten full league games, but upon returning from an injury he suffered in his 11th match, he struggled to have quite the same level of impact.

For example, in his final 17 league appearances, he could only muster five goal involvements for Postecoglou's side. However, considering the entire team's form dropped off a cliff in the final part of the year – losing five of seven games – it's hard to blame him.

Moreover, according to FBref, the "incredible" dynamo, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, sits in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for shot-creating actions and progressive passes, the top 2% for attempted passes, the top 7% for assists and the top 17% for pass completion, all per 90.

Add to this the fact that he scored ten goals and provided nine assists in 32 appearances for Leicester in his final season with them, and it's clear that his slight dip in form towards the end of 2023/24 was just that, a slight dip.

With this in mind, it makes sense that Transfermarkt has valued the Coventry-born dynamo at €70m, which is around £59m, or £8m more than Olmo might cost the club this summer.

Ultimately, if Levy and Co. have an opportunity to sign the Leipzig ace in the coming weeks, then they should take it. However, they shouldn't lose faith in Maddison, as he's still an incredibly talented player, and his lofty valuation reflects that.

Tom Harrison, the ECB chief executive, has defended his board’s decision to relax the bio-secure environments that were a feature of England’s behind-closed-doors campaign in the 2020 home season, arguing that the mental health and well-being of the players in its competitions requires the game to “learn to live” with Covid-19, rather than seek to prevent further infections within team environments.Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the opening match of the Hundred on July 21, Harrison warned that it was the duty of boards all around the world, and not just in the UK, to take greater heed of the concerns of their players – many of whom have endured months at a time away from their friends and young families in a bid to ensure that the competitions upon which the game’s revenues rely can be safely completed.However, with concerns already mounting about the viability of England’s five-Test series against India, amid the knock-on effects of Rishabh Pant’s positive Covid diagnosis and further infections within the India camp, Harrison insisted that all teams would be obliged to “accept some risk” in return for the day-to-day freedoms that enable elite sportsmen and women to produce their best performances.”We want people feeling good about going out and playing in whatever tournament they’re playing in, whether that’s the Hundred, whether that’s a Test series against India, whether that is county cricket and the RL50,” Harrison said.”We want people to be feeling like their life is delivering for them, both at home and as professional cricketers, men and women. While Harrison’s rhetoric was laudable, it did not, however, directly address the key issues facing the English cricket season in the coming weeks – namely the relaxation of the UK’s remaining Covid restrictions on July 19, two days before the Hundred begins, but the continuation until August 16 of the current Public Health England provisions surrounding Test and Trace, which require the close contacts of a person who tests positive for Covid to go into self-isolation for a period of 10 days.Such provisions have already caused havoc in English cricket in the past weeks. Last week, England were required to field a brand-new squad at 48 hours’ notice following seven positive cases in their original line-up for the Pakistan series, while Kent took the field with a team of second XI players in the County Championship fixture against Sussex that finished on Wednesday.In the same round of games, Essex’s hopes of defending their twin red-ball titles were effectively ended when Derbyshire had to abandon their fixture mid-match, before subsequently pulling out of their remaining fixtures in the Vitality Blast. The demand on players has caused doubts about the viability of the entire Royal London 50-over competition, which runs concurrently with the Hundred, despite Harrison’s insistence that there were “no plans to draw a red line” through its staging.But despite the long-term strategic importance of the Hundred, which Harrison reiterated was a bid to “make the game more meaningful to more people”, the summer’s immediate priority remains the staging of the India series, which begins at Trent Bridge on August 4, and is worth an estimated £100 million in broadcast revenues alone.Asked whether England’s Test players – among them Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Joe Root – would be able to feature in the Hundred, given the risks involved, Harrison admitted that the plans for their participation had not yet been finalised.”We are working through that at the moment,” he said. “Clearly we’ve got to make sure that we protect the India series but also it’s important they take part in the Hundred.”The thinking is around their travel, their accommodation, how do we make sure they’re not in close contact with anyone outside of the environment, do we need to put additional protocols around them? I’m expecting them to play at the start of the Hundred, so once we finalise that this week, we’ll know exactly how many games they will be available for.”Stokes admitted earlier this week that players were willing to make more “sacrifices” to keep the show on the road, but Harrison accepts that there are only so many times the ECB can come back to its players with demands to dig deeper for the cause – with tours of Bangladesh and Pakistan coming up this winter, closely followed by the T20 World Cup and the Ashes in Australia.”It is the most important series, then we’ve got another ‘most important series’ coming up, and then another directly after that,” Harrison said. “The reality is, for international players, this is just the next stage. There’s a sense that this conveyor belt just keeps going. We have to learn to offer players that ability to be mentally fresh, and that means operating within the protocols, in a way that means accepting some risk but, in return, getting the full support of players.”You want players turning up in these ‘most important series’ feeling fantastic about the opportunity of playing for their country,” he added. “They are not going to be able to achieve that if they have forgotten the reasons why they play.”You’ve got to listen to what they’ve been telling us, and it’s been very clear to most boards around the world that we need to listen more to the voice of the players. Because they’ve got lives too and in some cases very young families, who they’ve been pulled apart from for very long periods of time.”I’m afraid there comes a point where it’s no longer an acceptable answer to go again, ‘once more unto the breach dear friends’. I don’t believe that is an acceptable place for responsible employers to continue to go. So it’s about balance.”

With Michael Edwards back in a more important role than ever and Richard Hughes entering as the new sporting director, the Reds aren't short on transfer experts, which has already seen the headlines dominated by potential incomings.

The likes of Arda Guler and Nico Williams have been among those linked with an Anfield switch this summer, having both enjoyed solid Euro 2024 campaigns so far. But it remains to be seen just how willing the Reds are to spend big in the coming months. Instead, they could aim for bargain deals, starting with one particular midfielder.

According to Sport Italia, Liverpool are eyeing a move to sign Adrien Rabiot, who is yet to accept any of Juventus' new contract offers and looks increasingly likely to leave the Italian giants as a free agent this summer. In a bargain move for the Reds, they'd only be left paying the Frenchman's reported £146k-a-week salary without the need for a transfer fee.

As ever, though, the Premier League giants aren't alone in their interest, with Real Madrid also eyeing a potential move. In quite the trend in recent years, the Champions League winners could swoop in to deny Liverpool yet another transfer target.

Where Endo is more limited on the ball, Rabiot thrived last season all whilst maintaining his responsibilities away from possession. A player who's won both Serie A and Ligue 1 titles, among several other honours, the midfielder could be the final piece needed for Liverpool's midfield rebuild.

وفي تصريحات بمؤتمر صحفي اليوم السبت، قال إنريكي: “سنشاهد مواجهة قوية للغاية ومثيرة، في الذهاب والإياب كذلك، هذه البطولة بدأت تقدم لنا في نظامها الجديد بعض الأشياء المثيرة للاهتمام”.

وأضاف: “لم أشاهد القرعة، لأنني كنت أحتسي الكابتشينو مع مساعدي رافيل بول”.

وأكمل: “كلا الفريقين يسجلان العديد من الأهداف هذا الموسم، واللعب المباشر أهم ما يميز ليفربول وباريس سان جيرمان، وأعتقد أن النسبة 50\50”.
