2023 NL East Future Odds at the Start of Spring Training

The New York Mets (+125) are the favorites to win the NL East at SI Sportsbook.

The New York Mets, after winning 101 games in 2022, look poised to have another successful season after adding the reigning AL Cy Young winner, veteran Justin Verlander. The rotation now boasts two multiple-Cy Young winners (Verlander, Max Scherzer). The Mets lineup that scored the fifth-most runs (772) and had the second-best batting average in the league (.259) remains almost completely intact, adding catcher Omar Narvaez as a defensive upgrade.

• AL East Odds

The Atlanta Braves come in with the next-best odds at +140 and present better value than the Mets after winning the NL East last season with the exact same 101 wins. The Braves are a young and talented team that is just one season removed from a World Series title, and they look to be a threat again with a full season of Ronald Acuna Jr. heathy and batting leadoff. The Braves boast both the 2022 NL Rookie of the Year (starter Spencer Strider) and the NL ROY runner-up (centerfielder Michael Harris Jr.). They look like a team that can log triple-digit wins every season for the foreseeable future.

The Philadelphia Phillies may present the best value after surprising everyone by making it to the 2022 World Series as a wild card entry. Philadelphia begins its first full season under manager Rob Thompson, who replaced Joe Girardi when the team was still struggling last season. In the offseason, the Phillies acquired shortstop Trea Turner from the Dodgers to likely bat leadoff for a team that scored 719 runs (seventh) and was aggressive on the basepath with 105 stolen bases (fifth) in 2022. They will likely be without rightfielder Bryce Harper for at least half the season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, but doesn’t a second-half appearance bode well for another late-season surge? Three-to-one odds is good value for Philadelphia.

The Florida Marlins (+4000) and Washington Nationals (+15000) round out the bottom of the list, as both teams are in rebuilding mode for 2023.

Not just Sesko: Arsenal in talks to sign £84m star who's like Nico Williams

da bet vitoria: Arsenal finished second in the Premier League for the third successive season in 2024/25, and Mikel Arteta knows that he needs to bag himself a new striker to defeat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to next year’s title.

da betobet: Well, with a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the works, it seems like the Londoners are finally sorting out that issue, but attacking quality needs to be brought in across other areas too.

Out on the left, Gabriel Martinelli’s future is uncertain, and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams has been picked as a leading candidate to strength the Gunners’ attacking flank.

However, the Spain star isn’t the only one on the radar, especially after just 11 goals and seven assists from 45 matches in all competitions.

Arsenal, alongside their pursuit of the aforementioned Sesko, might be better off looking at a different La Liga sensation…

Arsenal line up Williams alternative

According to GIVEMESPORT, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo would be willing to sign for Arsenal this summer, but only if his £250k-per-week salary demands are met.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

In fact, sporting director Andrea Berta is personally driving the deal forward, having engaged in official talks with Los Blancos and the player’s representatives last week.

Chelsea have also expressed an interest, and it’s felt Florentino Perez would be open to selling for something in the range of £85m.

However, a resolution won’t be reached until Xabi Alonso has taken the time to decide if he considers the Brazil forward as untouchable or not, so don’t hold onto your breath with this one.

What Rodrygo would bring to Arsenal

Rodrygo has been at Real Madrid since his 18th birthday, when he left Santos and his Brazilian homeland in search of footballing riches in the Spanish capital.

The 24-year-old has since scored 68 goals and supplied 50 assists across 267 appearances for Real, notably winning two Champions League trophies and establishing himself as one of the game’s foremost forwards.

If Arsenal find themselves in the right position for it, they must move this dynamic attacker in lieu of Williams.

Hailed as a “world-class superstar” by his Real teammate Luka Modric, Rodrygo must be desperate to step away from the shadow of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe and begin to forge a new future for himself in the Premier League, where he could light up English football on the left flank.

Though he rarely features off the left, Rodrygo believes it is his best position, and when assessing his data from last term, it’s clear to see why.

Bukayo Saka has Arsenal’s right wing on lock, so it makes perfect sense to sign Rodrygo and give him the keys to the position he so desperately wants to nail down. Should Arteta make it happen, we could see some of the “terrifyingly good” finishing the Brazilian is capable of, as has been said by journalist Sam Tighe.

Such potency could see Rodrygo prove an even better fit than Williams, bringing many of the Spaniard’s electric qualities to the table but providing a sharper goalscoring sense too.

As per FBref, Rodrygo ranked among the top 2% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues last season for pass completion and the top 14% for progressive carries per 90.

Such technical and athletic qualities have actually seen Williams drawn against him as one of his most statistically similar players, so it’s clear he would be a stylistic fit for the Gunners.

Real Madrid'sRodrygolooks on

Given the need to add goals to Arsenal’s game, Arteta and Berta might be better off forging ahead with a deal for Rodrygo, who only missed one big chance in La Liga last term, scoring six goals.

A new challenge would serve him well, and he’d prove to be a superior choice to Williams while bringing a similar profile. Let’s get it done.

Fulham ready to move for "incredible" Manager of the Year nominee if Silva leaves

Fulham are now ready to make a move for an “incredible” manager, should Marco Silva decide to leave this summer, according to a report.

Silva's future at Craven Cottage still in doubt

Having been at Craven Cottage since 2021, Silva is now among the longest-serving Premier League managers, behind only Pep Guardiola, Thomas Frank and Mikel Arteta, but there have been suggestions his time in west London could now be coming to an end.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham Hotspur persist with Ange Postecoglou after their Europa League triumph, but should they part ways with the Australian, the Cottagers boss could be among the main candidates to be brought in as a replacement.

In the same report, it is revealed the 47-year-old coach could also be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, with several clubs ready to offer him mega money to leave the Premier League despite his insistence this weekend that he will stay put.

Agent says Fulham have submitted "very important" bid for 24 y/o goalkeeper

Could the Cottagers be bolstering a key area of the pitch?

ByHenry Jackson May 12, 2025

As such, Fulham have now started to identify potential replacements for the Portuguese manager just in case, and a report from The Sun states they are now ready to make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira.

Indeed, should Silva decide to move on, the Cottagers will look to raid their Premier League rivals for Pereira, who enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in England, leading the Old Gold to safety after replacing Gary O’Neil in the dugout.

The Portuguese coach is the number one choice to replace his compatriot, having been identified as an ideal fit, and there is a feeling the west Londoners could offer him a more lucrative financial package and a better long-term plan than he currently has at Molineux.

Pereira could be "incredible" Silva heir

The Wolves boss had a tough job on his hands after replacing O’Neil, but Wolves ultimately managed to avoid relegation with ease, at one point winning six matches on the spin from March until the end of April.

In light of the job the 56-year-old has done at Molineux, he has also received high praise from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, who said: “He really has done an incredible job, the whole atmosphere on the pitch and off the pitch,”

“He’s given everyone belief and confidence, made them more solid at the back. All over the park, they’re better, so he’s done a great job.”

The feel-good factor off the pitch is perhaps best showcased by the fact the former FC Porto boss has even been known to go to the pub for a pint with Wolves fans after matches.

Having also been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Season award, there are plenty of signs that Pereira could be a great replacement for Silva, but Fulham will ultimately be hoping their manager stays, having stabilised them as a top-flight club.

The fairytale continues! Arsenal legend Santi Cazorla signs new Real Oviedo contract at age 40 after helping inspire promotion to La Liga

Santi Cazorla has committed to another season with Real Oviedo, signing a new one-year contract that will see the Spanish legend return to La Liga after nearly half a decade away. The 40-year-old midfielder, whose previous contract had expired earlier this summer, will continue playing for his boyhood club as they prepare for top-flight football for the first time since 2001.

Cazorla’s contributions during the promotion playoffs were crucial. He scored first with a stunning free-kick in the semi-final against Almeria and then calmly converted a penalty in the final against Mirandes. His composure and technical ability proved to be decisive in high-stakes moments, proving that even at 40, his influence on the pitch remains profound.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cazorla’s journey with Oviedo is deeply personal. He spent his formative footballing years in the club's academy, but financial turmoil at the time prevented the club from offering him a professional deal. Forced to leave in 2003, Cazorla went on to build a glittering career across Spain, England, and Qatar. In 2012, when Oviedo was teetering on the brink of extinction, Cazorla joined a group of former players who purchased shares to help rescue the club from collapse. Since rejoining in 2023 following a stint with Al Sadd in Qatar, he has racked up 61 appearances, five goals, and nine assists.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Cazorla is no stranger to triumph and adversity. A double European Championship winner with Spain in 2008 and 2012, he was once among the most admired midfielders in world football. But in 2016, an Achilles injury threatened to end his career prematurely. Over the next two years, Cazorla endured 11 surgeries, including one operation that led to a gangrene infection. His rehabilitation culminated in a remarkable stint at Villarreal following his time at Arsenal, where he had made 180 appearances and played key roles in back-to-back FA Cup wins in 2014 and 2015.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CAZORLA?

Though age will likely prevent Cazorla from consistently completing full matches in La Liga, his value to Oviedo extends far beyond matchday contributions. In the dressing room, his presence offers a benchmark of professionalism for younger teammates. On the pitch, he has already shown he can rise to big occasions when needed, and manager Veljko Paunovic will surely look to use him in key moments throughout the campaign.

Darwin Nunez AND Luis Diaz left OUT of Liverpool squad for AC Milan friendly to fuel transfer exit speculation

Liverpool forwards Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have been left out of the matchday squad for the Reds' pre-season friendly against AC Milan on Saturday. Both Diaz and Nunez have been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer. Napoli are keen on securing the Uruguayan's signature, while Bayern Munich remain interested in the Colombian winger.

Arne Slot named a 22-man squad for Liverpool's first pre-season friendly of their Asia tour. New signing Florian Wirtz has been named in the starting line-up alongside existing stars like Alisson, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Nunez and Diaz, however, were left out altogether.

Bayern had seen their first bid for Diaz worth £59 million ($78.8m) rejected despite the player making it clear that he wants to leave the Anfield outfit. Now, reports that the Bavarian side remain keen on signing the Colombian winger, although they are yet to come up with an improved offer.

GettyDID YOU KNOW?

Nunez, who hit a hat-trick against Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week, is still poised to leave the Premier League champions this summer amid interest from Napoli and Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.

WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL

The omission of the two players from the matchday squad is an indication that the English giants are open to the double sale, as they could use that money to fund a move for their key target, Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Leeds now make approach for "explosive" £34m star who won MOTM in the UCL

Leeds United have now submitted an enquiry over a deal for an “explosive” forward, with his current employers setting an asking price of €40m (£34m), according to reporter Santi Aouna.

Leeds eyeing ambitious targets after sealing Premier League return

Playing in the Premier League is, of course, an attractive proposition for players all over the world, and having sealed a return to the top flight, Leeds have now set their sights on some ambitious targets for the summer transfer window.

Amid widespread reports suggesting Illan Meslier could be replaced after a difficult campaign, one of Daniel Farke’s most important tasks this summer may be bringing in a new goalkeeper, and the Whites have set their sights on Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.

Peretz impressed at times for Bayern during the 2024-25 campaign, perhaps most notably putting in a solid performance against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, which indicates he could be ready to be a regular starter elsewhere.

Leeds make contact to sign free agent star who scored 23 goals this season

BySean Markus Clifford Jun 2, 2025

The Israeli is not the only player with Champions League experience on Leeds’ radar, however, with Aouna recently taking to X to reveal they have now submitted an enquiry over a deal for Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao.

The Whites may need to spend big to seal a deal for Paixao, however, with the Dutch club holding out for a fee of €40m (£34m), and there could be stiff competition for his signature, given that Brighton & Hove Albion and Napoli have also made contact.

Igor Paixao for Feyenoord.

The Brazilian is “highly appreciated” by Feyenoord internally, and it is clear to see why he is held in such high regard, given the level of his performances both domestically and in Europe this season.

"Explosive" Paixao impressing in the Champions League

Feyenoord ultimately finished 11 points adrift of Eredivisie title-winners PSV Eindhoven, but the left-winger’s displays were certainly of the standard of a title-winning side, collecting 18 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, which is a whopping 37 total goal contributions.

Perhaps most significantly, the 24-year-old put in some very impressive performances in the Champions League, receiving the Man of the Match award after shining against AC Milan back in February.

The Feyenoord star impressed analyst Ben Mattinson with his performance that day, saying he’s “a creative winger who’s an instinctive shooter”, while he has also caught scout Jacek Kulig’s eye in the past, who described him as “explosive”.

Paixao is undoubtedly an ambitious target, given that he has already proven himself against some of Europe’s top clubs, and may not want to be involved in a relegation battle next season, but the forward could be a real statement signing if Leeds are able to seal a deal.

Arsenal progressing in talks to sign £51m "mini Salah" who could rival Saka

It’s safe to say this has been a perplexing season for Arsenal, who are now very likely to finish second having secured Champions League football for next season.

It came in the 37th gameweek as Mikel Arteta’s men defeated Newcastle 1-0. It was a game that rather typified the Gunners’ recent form, truth be told. Arsenal didn’t create a huge number of openings and left themselves exposed at the back.

This time, they had Man of the Match David Raya to thank for their victory with the Spaniard making a number of high-class saves in the opening 45 minutes. While Arsenal don’t need a goalkeeper, their end-of-season form has showcased where they need to strengthen.

Fortunately, writing before the game in the programme, Josh Kroenke spoke of the club’s summer plans and indicated that they will spend, sparking excitement for what’s to come.

So, speaking of transfers, who is likely to come through the door?

Arsenal ramping up summer transfer plans

While the biggest box to tick this summer is that of a shiny new centre forward, the Gunners must also hone in on a new winger after inconsistent campaigns for both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Martinelli has found form in the back end of the campaign but has only scored on eight occasions in the Premier League. As for Trossard, he’s netted the same number in top-flight action.

As a result, we’ve seen continued links to Spanish winger Nico Williams and a suggestion that Arsenal are fans of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.

Despite their need for a new winger on the left, they could actually bolster the right-hand side too. That’s because, according to new reports, they are interested in signing Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

That’s the word of club insider Teamnewsandtix, who wrote in his latest Patreon entry: “After the data team identified him last summer, Arsenal are targeting Bryan Mbeumo again. I’m told talks are progressing, but they aren’t the only team in for him.”

The Cameroon international has been nothing short of a sensation this summer and is also attracting the interest of Manchester United, according to other reports.

The forward is allegedly valued at around £51m by the Bees.

Where Mbeumo would fit into Arteta's Arsenal team

With Bukayo Saka very much still the leading light in Arteta’s lineup, fitting Mbeumo into the equation may be hard.

Described as a “Mini Salah” by talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy, the Brentford star has made a living out of cutting inside from the right and bamboozling defenders on his stronger left foot. As the compliment suggests, he’s like Salah and, as a matter of fact, he’s very much like Saka in that regard.

Brentford's BryanMbeumoreacts

While Arsenal do need to find someone who’s capable of giving the England international a break every now and then, spending £51m on a right winger when they are arguably more in need of a left forward perhaps doesn’t make too much sense.

Well, fortunately, Mbeumo is a versatile player, most notably playing six times as a centre forward this season, scoring four goals in the process.

Meanwhile, he’s played off the left on nine occasions in his career and he’s also featured behind the main striker as a no.10 or second striker 43 times. While that may well take away his strongest asset, cutting inside from the right, he certainly has the ability to make a difference in more central areas.

So, how does he compare with Saka?

Mbeumo has been in remarkable form this season and ranks fifth in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, having bagged 19 goals. In all competitions, he’s also produced nine assists for his troubles.

When analysing their respective numbers, it’s clear the Brentford star is a more clinical player in front of goal. Despite taking fewer shots per 90 minutes, he’s scoring more regularly than Saka.

However, this would certainly be to the advantage of Arteta’s team. While Mbeumo may well be the better goalscorer, Saka is one of the most creative wingers in the world and is streets ahead in metrics like key passes and shot-creating actions.

Yes, there would likely be confusion about Arsenal signing a natural right winger, but supporters shouldn’t turn their noses up at more goals. This term, the league’s second-placed side have scored 67 goals in the top-flight, 16 fewer than Liverpool.

IPL 2025: No increase in number of matches as BCCI wary of India's workload

There will be a total of 74 matches played, 10 fewer than what was listed by the IPL in 2022 during the new media rights cycle

There will be a total of 74 matches played in IPL 2025, the same as the last three seasons. That number, though, is ten less than the 84 matches listed by IPL in 2022 when the media rights for the 2023-27 cycle were sold.In the tender document for the new rights cycle, the IPL had listed a varying number of matches per season: ranging from 74 games each in 2023 and 2024, 84 matches each in 2025 and 2026, and a maximum of 94 matches for the final year of the deal in 2027. ESPNcricinfo has learned that one significant reason the IPL has decided not to have 84 matches in 2025 is to help the Indian international players manage their workload. India are currently favourites to make their third successive World Test Championship final, scheduled from June 11 at Lord’s, and the BCCI wants to ensure players get enough rest as part of their preparation if they qualify.Currently, the IPL dates for the 2025 season aren’t finalised yet but the window is likely to stretch between mid-March and last week of May. “We have not taken a call on organising 84 matches in IPL 2025 since we also have to factor the load on the players due to the increase in matches,” Jay Shah, the outgoing BCCI secretary, told the recently. “While it’s (84 matches) part of the contract, it’s up to the BCCI to decide whether to organise 74 or 84 matches.”Related

In 2022, the IPL became one of the richest sporting leagues in the world (in terms of per match value) when the media rights were sold for INR 48,390.5 crore (USD 6.2 billion approx.). The rights had been sold across four packages: A (TV rights in the Indian subcontinent), B (digital rights in the subcontinent), C (digital rights in India to a special package of high-profile games – including the playoffs and the final – ranging between 18 and 22 per season) and D (global media rights across five separate regions). The total number of matches in a season, the IPL said, would also determine the number of matches in package C, also known as the special package. This package includes the tournament opener, weekend evening matches, and the four playoffs, including the final. While the opening match and the playoffs will be mandatory, the IPL will determine the number and which evening matches from the double-headers will be included in this package, based on the total number of games in a season.A season total of 74 matches (as was the case in 2023 and 2024) means the special package had 18 matches. If there are more than 74 matches in a season, then the special package matches will rise by two for every ten additional matches. So if there are 84 matches in a season, the special package matches will rise to 20 and if the tournament has 94 games, the special package will have 22 matches.
